John's Church for Sale, Marlette, MI - The Thumb

My husband took the day off work yesterday and we went on a little excursion through the thumb. If you have ever lived in Michigan, you know that the state is shaped like a mitten and we refer to areas by where they are on the mitten. When people ask where you are from, you might raise your left hand, and point to it with your right to show where. The thumb is not a highly populated area, but we saw some great sites. As we were driving along M-53 in Marlette, I spotted a cute church so we stopped to take a photo, only to meet the proprietor, John, who is selling the church and everything in it! Now, I always thought an old church would make a great home or studio and that is true of this place, too. Inside where a lot of knick knacks and stuff, but amongst them were some treasures, too. Like this settee and that wonderful children's bed!

There was so much and he was so friendly, even giving gifts to the children. We met his dog, Max and his cat, too. It was really a pleasant visit and I would love to see John able to sell this great place to someone motivated to love it for what it is. It was built in 1890. John says he will part with it for $90K on land contract so that he can go live near his daughter who is very ill.

A new skirt

Someone had a very exciting audition yesterday and needed just the right skirt. Something conservative, clean, and not distracting. After spending a bit of time shopping around for just such a skirt, it was determined that it could not be found in any store. I made it. Very easy and it fits the bill. By the way, the audition was a success!

It's a Slow Go...

As summer winds down and we prepare for the beginning of school, I'm trying to get back into some crafting. The vest is growing. In fact, I think I should have used smaller needles. We are also beginning to think about Halloween costumes here. I have a poodle/cat skirt to make. I've also made slow progress on more sandwich wraps. I've had some requests for more pillow chairs, but that will have to wait until school is in full swing.

She's More Than Just A Pretty Face!

An online friend has been nominated to be Glamour Magazine's Woman of the Year! Rachel is a caring, sweet gal who has battled tremendous odds to survive Askins tumor (same diagnosis as my daughter) 3 times! As if that weren't enough of an accomplishment, she works tirelessly to raise money for research and provide inspirational speeches and written pieces for publication. You can check out her blog OBSESSED WITH LIFE.

You can vote over and over until Sept. 4! I hope you will. I would love to see her win and bring awareness to cancer and the many young people battling the beast. Cast your vote for Rachel Baumgartner-Lozano!

On the Needles

As thoughts turn to fall and back-to-school, I've got a new project on my needles. This great vest is for ME! It keeps me off of facebook, too!

This is a dress I made years ago, my younger daughter thinks it is perfect bowling attire. She is definitely herself!
